Co-founder & Operations Director

Emily Zhang, a junior at Newport High School, serves as the Co-founder and Operations Director in the Hand in Hand program. Emily is engaged in multiple activities such as Newport's golf team, orchestra, and leadership. As an extroverted individual, she enjoys socializing and interacting with people from different communities. Her Chinese immigrant identity also encloses her connections with her Chinese friends, forming her passion for the Hand in Hand program. Through this program, she hopes to help new Chinese immigrant students discover their interests in communities and assist them in adjusting to America's divergent cultures.  

Co-founder & Outreach Manager

Carrie Zhang, a junior at Newport High School, serves as the Co-founder and the direct student Outreach Manager in the Hand in Hand program. Carrie enjoys interacting with Chinese popular culture such as reading Chinese novels and using Chinese social media. Being a Chinese immigrant, Carrie struggled with the major culture difference in America, as customs, traditions and ideals were drastically different compared to China. Through this, she was inspired to create the Hand in Hand program and strive for a comfortable environment for new Chinese immigrants, as well as providing them with resources to guide them in adapting to an unfamiliar society.  

Logistics Manager

Grace Wang, a junior at Newport High School, serves as the Logistics Manager in the Hand in Hand program. During Grace’s free time, she likes to read, explore traditional culture, learn historical cultures of various ethnic groups, and watch musicals and Chinese traditional operas. She moved to the United States in 2021, so her Chinese immigrant identity is still fairly new to her. She recognizes that many of her experiences and connections with Chinese immigrant friends are relatable to the purpose of this program. She believes that the Hand in Hand program can guide those that had similar experiences as a Chinese immigrant through a more systematic way. 

Social Media Manager

Sherry Huang, a freshman at Newport High School, is one of the Instagram Social Media Managers of the Hand in Hand program. She recently moved to the United States in 2023; although the transition was a bit of a struggle for her at first, she still tried her best to adapt to her new environment and the American culture. She gained a lot of experience transitioning to an American high school and discovered that there were many differences between the two countries, especially in terms of education and habits. In her free time, she always watches movies or play in sports. Sherry is also an optimistic person who likes to make friends and help others. She wants to use this opportunity to share and help more immigrants, especially teenagers, transition to new communities. Sherry loves and appreciates such a diverse community and believes she can make her own contribution within the Hand in Hand program.

Social Media Manager

Grace Wong, a freshman at Newport High School, is the second Instagram Social Media Manager. After staying in China for ten years, she recently moved to the United States. Grace finds joy in listening to music and reading in her spare time. She is passionate about building friendships and creating a sense of home in the United States, and is actively engaged in school activities. Grace is dedicated to create an inclusive community through the platform of Hand in Hand and she is looking forward to making her contributions.
